A group of Polish nationalists attempted to disrupt an anti-government protest as thousands rallied against new rules on surveillance by security services on the streets of Warsaw, Saturday. Protesters marched from the Prime Minister Office towards the Presidential Palace waving Polish and European Union flags, as well as banners with anti-government slogans. The protest was organised by the Committee for the Defence of Democracy (KOD) and took place in a further 40 Polish cities and towns, as well as several locations abroad. Critics of the new measures on Internet surveillance say they will allow widespread electronic eavesdropping and data gathering, thereby violating citizen's privacy. KOD also oppose many of the new government's measures, such as those concerning public media and the Constitutional Court.
